Tried a 3 Day Juice Cleanse and This Is What Happened

In pursuit of breaking some bad eating habits and detoxing my body from processed foods, I found myself committed to trying the 3 Day Juice Cleanse by Juice Mom. I was experiencing bad acid reflex with anything I ate, as well as intense bloating. I knew I needed to give my body a break and reset itself.

This juice cleanse is a 3-day detox from eating and consuming caffeine to give your body a much needed “break” and allow it to work on other things… aka processing food better, giving your digestive track a rest, reduce bloating and overall resetting your body’s system.

I was provided with 5 juices a day – all which were delicious might I add and if needed I could snack on a few food items which were listed for you. Each drink had something different in it which I LOVED because it didn’t feel like I was drinking the same mundane thing each time.

DISCLAIMER – this is not a weight loss program. Although you may lose some weight doing this, this is NOT the intention behind committing to a juice cleanse. The cleanse is meant to reset your body and encourage you to continue eating healthy by incorporating smoothies into your daily routine – or as I have decided – to commit to one juicing day a week to help ease my digestive track from processed foods all the time.

My 3 Day Experience:

DAY ONE:

This was the hardest day. I wasn’t hungry; that didn’t seem to be my problem. I also didn’t miss my coffee because I found myself hyper focused on the juices and kept myself busy; coffee didn’t seem to cross my mind.

The hardest part was not reaching for food. I quickly realized how often I am picking up leftovers from my kids and placing them it my mouth. While making lunches for them, I am reaching for one or two of this item or that. I couldn’t believe how much I mindlessly went for food throughout my day.

This woke me up to my mindless eating and how those calories quickly add up throughout my day. These empty calories are also limiting me at the gym; as quickly as I burn these calories off, I am mindless consuming them.

By the end of the day, I noticed I wasn’t bloated at all and experienced no acid reflex! This was huge win for me as I haven’t felt this great in a long time. I was able to complete a workout this day without any limitations. I also drank between 3-4L of water.

DAY TWO:

Sticking with the no caffeine, I kept my water intake high, reaching 4L to help flush out toxins and break away from any headaches which may occur. This is the day where most people tend to feel a mild headache all day – drink up ladies to help counter this.

Today, I felt I had a better grip on my mindless eating. Now that I recognized my behaviours, I was able to distract myself and have better control over not reaching for everything in sight.

Each drink I still looked forward to and wasn’t overly hungry. I did eat an apple in the evening as I needed a extra nutrients because of my workout.

My digestive track was still feeling good, no acid reflex all day and bloating was non-existent. I also found that I was sleeping better and had more mental clarity throughout the day.

Workout: Was able to still train today but did feel my energy was down, so I couldn’t push as hard.

DAY THREE:

OK… three days was enough for me. By Day 3 I was ready to go back to my current eating routine and ditch the cleanse. But I committed and wanted to feel the full benefits from all three days.

By midday, I was grateful and glad I committed as my stomach hadn’t felt this good in a long time. To experience three days with no acid reflex and looking like I was 6 months pregnant felt like a miracle. Also, recognizing my mindless behaviours and habits around food really allowed me to open up to where I was needing to change in my diet and how these small actions limited me in reaching that next step with my fitness goals.

Day 3 was the easiest by far to complete, as the routine of only drinking had set in by now.

Workout – I did attempt a workout this day. This was a poor decision on my part as my energy levels were low and I was extremely light headed throughout the entire workout. I should’ve taken today as a rest day or focused on stretching/mindset modules instead.

Overall – I lost 3lbs on the cleanse. I felt I was sleeping great, my digestive track has never felt better, I had more energy in the mornings, as well as mental clarity throughout the day.

After trying out my first cleanse, I will have to admit I am hooked! I did some research during and noticed a lot of people found great success in complete a 1-day cleanse weekly. I will start adding this in to my weekly routine to help eliminate constant bloating, help stay mindful of bad habits around food and to give my digestive track a break.

Would I do it again? YUP! I love the juices and the overall experience.
